Church Restoration Print

In January 2002 the parish commissioned a full review of St Ignatius' Church's fabric.  Church Architects, Fawkner Andronas, undertook this review. In 2010 Andronas Conservation Architecture undertook a further review, updated in 2012.

The parish is aware that significant work needs to be undertaken on the church which is nearly 150 years old.  Priorities include:

  • restoration or replacement of the slate roof (completed in 2014)
  • work on the south transept
  • new electrical wiring
  • improvement of the sound system
  • major work on the spire

St Ignatius' Church received National Trust classification in 2011 and a plaque commemorating this achievement has been installed at the front of the church. Before launching any restoration appeal, such classification was an important and preliminary step as donations to the appeal are now tax deductible.
