The Brother Paul Noonan Asylum Seeker Centre was set up in 2008 and was the initiative of Liam Lucas from the Edmund Rice Centre.

Liam asked the Richmond Catholic Parish if some of the rooms were available to set up a centre to welcome Asylum Seekers and to give them a place where they could meet and socialize. From this centre some form of practical assistance could be given to them.

The parish offered rooms at the south-west corner of the St Ignatius Centre (the old school building) and these formed theĀ  Centre which was named after a recent Provincial of the Christian Brothers who died suddenly in Africa.

The Centre is usually open on Sunday afternoons and occasionally at other times. It is staffed by volunteers, mainly university students. The current coordinator is Katerina.
