03 August 2014: Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

St Ignatius of LoyolaNo creature can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ

Feast Day 31 July: St Ignatius of Loyola is the Patron Saint of St Ignatius' Church and he was founder of the Society of Jesus (SJ) to which this parish was entrusted in 1866.

St Ignatius was born Inigo Lopez on 24 December 1491, the year before Columbus discovered the New World. His birthplace was the great castle of Loyola in Guipuzcoa, in the Basque country of northwest Spain. There were three daughters and eight sons in the family and he was the youngest.

St Ignatius wrote the Prayer for Generosity, an excerpt from which is below:

“To give, and not to count the cost
to fight, and not to heed the wounds,
to toil, and not to seek for rest,
to labor, and not to ask for any reward,
save that of knowing that we do thy will”
