Praying handsA Catholic funeral is the ritual whereby the person who has died is entrusted to the love and care of God.  The funeral is a liturgical celebration and proclamation of eternal life.  Funerals at St Ignatius' Church and St James' Church seek to offer spiritual support to family and friends.

The Church prays on behalf of the deceased in the confidence that death is not the end. The funeral liturgy provides the greatest hope in future resurrection and being reunited with our loved ones after they have passed away.

The simplest way to organise a funeral at either church of the Richmond Catholic Parish is to contact a funeral director, who will usually then contact the Church and check on time availabilities for the liturgy to commence. Priests are always available to help people in these instances with any needs or questions.

It is customary to make an offering to the Church for a funeral. This offering is $350.00 at St Ignatius' Church and the offering for St James' Church is $150.00. An additional celebrant fee is payable if you use one of the parish priests.  These contributions go to the upkeep of the Church.

The Richmond Catholic Parish also has a beautiful Columbarium in St Ignatius' Church for the ashes of deceased persons to be placed.
