Fr Nguyen Viet Huy joined the Jesuits in 1984 having arrived in Australia from Vietnam a few years prior to this. In Vietnam, he was a soldier in the South Vietnamese Army.
Huy first stayed in Adelaide and got to know the Jesuits at Norwood. After completion of his philosophy and theology studies, Huy was ordained in 1992. Since then he has:
- worked at Loyola College Mount Druitt;
- been Chaplain to the Australian Army;
- been the Parish Priest of St Ignatius Parish, Richmond; and
- worked in Adelaide assisting the Vietnamese Catholic Chaplaincy.
Huy has been a member of the Richmond Jesuit community since 2013.
In January 2014 he was assigned as Parish Administrator of the Richmond Catholic Parish.
He was appointed Parish Priest, for the second time, from the Feast of St Ignatius in July 2014.
