Fr Trung Nguyen SJ was born in Vietnam at the height of the war in 1974. He and his family fled Vietnam as refugees when he was 7 years old and spent two years in a refugee camp in Thailand. Fr Trung and his family were eventually accepted as immigrants to Australia where he grew up in Adelaide and then Brisbane. His previous occupation was as a motor mechanic.

At 26 years old, Fr Trung was called to enter the Society of Jesus, was ordained in 2011 and was based at Richmond. In 2012 he was missioned to China, serving people affected by leprosy and HIV. Fr Trung returned to Australia in 2014 to undertake the tertianship program (final stage of formation for Jesuits). He was then appointed as Rector of Jesuit Mission from 2016 to 2020.

As the new Parish Priest of the Richmond Catholic Parish, Fr Trung hopes to get more acquainted with the parish community to be able to better serve them.

Fr Trung Nguyen SJ and Fr Eka Tanaya SJ catch up with us to talk about mission, magnanimity and the joy of ministry. Want to live a big hearted response to God's love for us? #beajesuitaus
