Farewell to Kim and Paul Power
After many years as Richmond parishioners, Dr Kim Power and Dr Paul Power are leaving to live in a Retirement Village. After first moving to Richmond in 1998, they joined the Richmond Catholic Parish and were made welcome at St James', particularly by Val Flynn, Meg Pullar, Maria Rohr, Wendy Matarkis and Jean Kerr Walsh.
Paul and Kim have generously offered their services across a range of activities during their 23 years in the parish. Both served on what was then called the Richmond Parish Leadership Team and, later as Chair, Paul undertook the task of writing the Constitution for the renamed Parish Pastoral Council. Paul also served on various committees at Trinity Primary School. Another area of service has been music. Building on a lifetime of singing in church choirs since the age of seven, Paul joined the choir at St James' and, in recent years, became Choir Master, ably assisted by Meg Pullar.
Kim, for her part, generously shared her wealth of knowledge, preparing the weekly PowerPoint and leading liturgies which often focused on the role of women in the Church.
Paul and Kim are a remarkable couple. They are exemplars of married life, still faithful to the vows they exchanged on their wedding day so many years ago. In recent years, they have supported each other through various illnesses and health challenges. They will be sadly missed but leave behind a richer faith community, grateful for their long and generous service. We wish them God’s richest blessings and hope they take with them many happy memories of their time in Richmond.
