Reflection on Mother’s Day 2021
A few years ago during my stay in Macau, I encountered quite a number of young Vietnamese mothers who were migrant workers. Due to poverty they had to leave their young children behind in Vietnam either with their husband or parents to look after them, and to find work in Macau. With limited educational opportunities, they were employed as domestic helpers doing menial tasks. They endured much hardship just because of love for their children and family. The thing that saddened me the most was that they were separated from their children for 2 to 3 years at a time. Just imagine their daily misery of separation and the unending longing of being able to embrace their children.
I have been told that apart from God, there are only two others who love us unconditionally. The first is our mothers, and the second is our dogs.
On this day, let us pray for all mothers, those fulfilling the roles of mothers, and those desiring to be mothers that they will be abundantly blessed with the wisdom, love and patience to fulfil the sacred duties that God has endowed on them and be positive role models for their children.
