Sunday 25 July was the Feast Day of St James the Greater (also known as St James the Great), patron saint of St James' Church. St James the Greater, traditionally considered to be the first apostle to be martyred, is the patron of of pilgrims and Spain.

The Pilgrimage of Compostela (Camino de Santiago), also known as the Way of St James, leads to the shrine where his remains are buried in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

While we were unable to physically gather together to celebrate the Feast Day due to State Government emergency health directives impacting all places of worship in Victoria, we livestreamed the Masses on this special day for parishioners of St James' Church and our wider Richmond Catholic Parish community.

Let us pray that we might follow the example of St James by listening, learning and allowing ourselves to be converted and transformed by Jesus.

St James the Greater, pray for us!

“Like Saint James, we sometimes ask of the Lord more than we are ready to receive. We must become as little children and accept from the hands of our heavenly Father whatever he deigns to give us.”
